Magdalen 'Madge' Rhyner
DORCHESTER -- Magdalen "Madge" Rhyner died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Maurina Funeral Home in Dorchester and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church. There will be a rosary service at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A Mass celebrating her life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester, Wis. The Rev. James Schaefer will officiate. Burial will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.
Magdalen "Madge" Rhyner was born Dec. 29, 1924, in the town of Little Black to Henry and Elizabeth (Henrichs) Mertens. She was a graduate of St. Louis School and Dorchester, Wis. High School. In September 1942, she married Galen Waldhart; the couple had two daughters, Chris and Gail. Galen died in an airplane accident in 1946 and Madge was married to Arnold Rhyner on Oct. 15, 1949. She was the loving mother to five more children, Debbie, Linda, Laurie, Paul and Steve. Madge and Arnie first lived in Ogema and Phillips, and then moved in 1957 to Dorchester, where she lived until the time of her death. Madge did beautiful knitting and loved to bake, cook and garden, but most important to her was time spent with her family. Her coffee pot was always on, and visitors were always made welcome.
Madge was a member of St. Louis Church and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society and the Dorchester Homemakers.
Surviving are Arnold Rhyner and their children, Chris Mantor, Gail (Darrel) Damm, Debbie (Tony) Stuttgen, Linda (Mike) Ramker, Laurie (Roger) Krebsbach, Paul (Sue) Rhyner, Steve (Mary) Rhyner; 32 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
An infant daughter, Mary; Galen Waldhart; her parents; and nine brothers and sisters precede her in death.
