Grether, Ruth J. (Marriage - Feb. 1945)

Miss Ruth J. Grether, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. D. Grether of Colby, became the bride of Lt. Albert V. Gress, Jr., 1325 Wakefield Ave., Dayton, Ohio, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Gress, at a ceremony performed in Fairview United Brethren church at Dayton, Ohio, with Rev. Joseph B. Henry reading the marriage ceremony and the pronouncement was spoken by Rev. Grether. The bride’s father, Rev. D. Grether, gave her away after which he took his place at the side of Rev. Henry who spoke a few well chosen words and then read the marriage service, using the double ring ceremony. The words of pronouncement were spoken by the bride’s father. The attendants were Miss Grace M. Grether, sister of the bride, and Winston Gress, the groom’s brother.

The bride was attired in a gown of white satin with net yoke embroidered in seed pearls, long sleeves and long train, fingertip veil with tiara organdie flowers. Her bouquet consisted of white rosebuds tied with a satin ribbon. Her sister, Miss Grace M. Grether, wore a dress of dusty rose satin, floor length, bodice trimmed in acquina, shoulder length veil of American beauty net. Her bouquet consisted of American beauty roses.

A reception was held at the groom’s home, the home being nicely decorated with roses and pink and white gladiolas.

The groom spent ten months in overseas duty in France and will leave soon for further overseas duty. He is a gunnery officer in an army air corps. The bride is employed as a nurse in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
