Hudson, Nellie May (5 May 1873 - 16 Sept. 1945)

Mrs. Nellie May (Whitney) Hudson, resident of Colby, Wisconsin, and its vicinity for over forty years, passed away at the home of her son, Claude R. Whitney, early Sunday morning, September 16, 1945, after an illness of several months. Nellie Miller was born in Prosper, Minnesota, on May 5th, 1873. She spent her early days in Iowa. On January 4th, 1893 she married Claude Rockwood Whitney who died in July 1896.

She later married Lyman Hudson. They came to this community in 1902 and lived on a farm until 1923 when they moved to the city of Colby, Wis. Mr. Hudson passed away in December, 1935.

Mrs. Nellie Hudson descended from a long line of early American pioneers who settled in New England. Her grandfather, James Rollins, was an importer of Percheron Horses, having made numerous trips to France for this purpose. He later operated a stage coach line between Portage and Stevens Point, Wisconsin, before the railroads opened up this territory. Her father, Charles M. Miller, was born in the state of New York and later homesteaded a claim in the state of Iowa.

She is survived by her four children, Brayton Whitney of Decorah, Iowa, Claude R. Whitney of Colby, Mrs. Harold Reyer of Wauwatosa, Wis., and Edsil Hudson of Milwaukee, Wis., also by eleven grand children, one great grand child and a brother, Roy Miller of Prosper, Minnesota.

Nellie Hudson will always be remembered by her friends as a demure and kindly person with a cheerful disposition and willingness to help whenever help was needed.

The funeral services were held at Lulloff’s Funeral Home and at the Methodist church at two o’clock on Tuesday, September 18th, with the Reverend Ferguson officiating. Internment was at the Colby cemetery.
