AlVera Mae Hubbard was born on March 28, 1916, in Durand, Wis., to Bert and Ruth (Catt) Hubbard. When she was a young child, her family moved to Thorp where she was raised and received her education at Busy Bee Country School in the town of Worden and at Thorp High School. After completing her education, AlVera worked at Soo Café in Thorp as a waitress and also did domestic work for people in the area. She was united in marriage to Harvey J. Boie on May 15, 1940, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Stanley. They farmed in the town of Worden, where they raised their family and lived until Harvey retired in 1979, at which time they built a home in Thorp. Her husband died on March 2, 1997. AlVera resided in her home until moving to Morgan Plaza in 2002. She later moved to Rosewood Villa in 2004, and then to Oakbrook Nursing & Rehab in June of 2005.

She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, and was an active member of its P.C.C.W., a charter member of Thorp Lioness Club, a member of Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club for over 50 years, and was a Grey Lady at Stanley Hospital for many years.

AlVera had many interests, but especially loved attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events as well as Thorp High School sporting events, where she was honored as Thorp High School Fan of the Year. She also loved baking, cooking and crocheting afghans for her family.

She will be sadly missed by her three sons, Rich (Carol) Boie of Thorp, Russ (Paulette) Boie of Pewaukee and Gary (Cindy) Boie of Cecil; eight grandchildren, Kay Boie (special friend, Rick Hanson) and her son, Blake, Kert (Jill) Boie and their children, Brittany, Morgan and Brook, Kari (Tom) Mueller and their children, Benjamin and Brent, Kris (Randy) Karaba and their children, Bailey and Kole, Tracy Boie (fiancé, Michael Schultz), Robin (Steve) Mohs and their son, Maxwell, Eric Boie and Michael Boie; one sister, Beryl (Marc) Wagener of Muskego; one brother, Dean (Dolly) Hubbard of Thorp; two sisters-in-law, Alice Timlin of Stanley and Ella Hubbard of Thorp; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey; one daughter, Diane Kay Boie, in infancy; one brother, Allen Hubbard; and one sister, Evelyn Cook.
