Elaine N. Haffner

STRATFORD -- Elaine N. (Hagen) Haffner, 82, a former Stratford and Fenwood resident, died Thursday, May 4, 2006, at the Colonial Center in Colby, Wis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2006, at St. John's Lutheran Church, ELCA, on Highway N in the town of Wien, Marathon County. The Rev. Jeffrey C. Tarras will officiate.

Burial will take place in Ebenezer United Church of Christ Cemetery in the town of Cleveland, Marathon County, and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Sauter/Kundinger Funeral Home in Stratford and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Elaine was born June 7, 1923, in the town of Hamburg, Marathon County, to William and Anna (Grell) Bugs. She attended Athens schools. She married Walter Hagen on June 29, 1945, in the town of Hamburg. They farmed there until 1958, when they moved to the town of Cleveland. Walter died on Dec. 18, 1969. On Oct. 6, 1972, she married Art Haffner of Fenwood. They resided in Fenwood until 1990 when they moved to Stratford. Art died on Sept. 6, 1993. Elaine continued to reside in Stratford until she entered Colonial Center, Colby, Wis.

In her younger years, Elaine worked for Fromm Brothers in Hamburg. In November of 1959 she began working in the housekeeping department at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, until her retirement.

She was a member of the former St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Fenwood, and a current member of St. John's Lutheran Church on Highway N in the town of Wien.

She is survived by two sons, two daughters, nine grandchildren and seven grandchildren. Her children are William (Beverly) Hagen of Wausau and their dog Mya; DuWayne (Carol) Hagen of Edgar and their children, Jackie Hagen, Laura (Bob) Tess, Lisa (Larry) Kinsman, and Lois (Josh) Volesky; Jodene (Delmar) Leffel of Edgar and their children, Jeff (friend, Charlotte Bremmer) Leffel and LeAnn (Rodney) Lang; Irene (Mitchell) Eckes of Stratford and their children, David (Rachael) Eckes, Corey (Rachael) Eckes, and Tim (friend, Beth Wunrow) Eckes.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husbands; two grandchildren, Jennifer Hagen and Troy Leffel; a son-in-law, David Mueller; and a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Hagen.

A memorial will be designated in her name at a later date.
