Woik, Theresa #2 (16 OCT 1854 - 8 FEB 1941)

Theresa Woik, whose maiden name was Huth, was born in Belgard, Pomerania, on the 16th day of October, 1854. At the age of 14 years she came to America with her sister and aunt. They settled in Chicago where the departed engaged in housework for a livelihood.

She was united in marriage on the 29th day of June 1878, to August Sommer of Chicago. In the year 1889 they moved to Colby, living there for a year, then they returned to Chicago, where in the fall of 1881 August passed away, leaving her with two small children.

She then moved to the Town of Green Grove (Clark Co., Wis.), making her home with her deceased husband’s parents. On the 22nd day of March 1884, she was married to August Woik of Green Grove. They settled on a farm, where she resided until four years ago when ill health forced her to retire from active life and make her home with her marriage children. On the 9th day of April 1940, she came to live with her daughter, Mrs. Herta Sommers, at whose home she passed away, on the 8th day of February 1941, at the age of 86 years, 3 months 3 weeks and 1 day.

She leaves to mourn, nine children, Arthur Sommers and Hattie Glenzer of the first union; Ernest Woik, Anton Woik, and Paul Woik of Owen; Herta Sommers, Alvin Woik of Curtiss; and Olga McLaughlin, Hulda Nedley of Milwaukee; also 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, three sosn preceded her in death. They were Herman, Otto, and Rudolph.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Green Grove, Rev. M.C. Goetsch officiating.

The pallbearers were Arthur Sommers, Ernest Woik, Paul Woik, Anton Woik, Alvin Woik, Theodore Sommer. Flower girls, Mrs. Ted Miller, Mrs. Lavern Pacholke, Marilyn and Marlin Sommer, Violet Woik, and Robert Woik.

Those who attended the funeral from away were Joe Janda of Chicago; Mrs. Frank Nedley of Milwaukee; Mrs. John McLaughlin, Miss Alice McLaughlin, Mrs. Hans Hennlich and daughter, Liana of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. William Sommer of Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schuette of Riplinger; Mr. and Mrs. L. Pacholke of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. H. Scheffler of Athens.
