Schulz, Theresa (28 Apr. 1860 - 27 Feb. 1946)

Mrs. Theresa Schulz, nee Zelle, died at the age of 85 years and 10 months, Wednesday evening, February 27th.

Funeral services were held March 3rd at 1:45 P.M. at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby and at 2:15 at the First Ev. and Reformed church, Rev. Robert Leonhardt officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery beside her husband. Pall bearers were William and Walter Theilig, Louis, Perry, Julius and Calvin Schulz, all grandsons. Mrs. John Mengel, Mrs. Arthur Thieme, Mrs. Lawrence Mielke, and Dolores Schulz, all granddaughters, were in charge of the flowers. Mrs. David Brecker, Elaine and Donald Schulz sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Heaven Is My Home" and Mrs. Maynard Bauer, "There Is An Hour of Peaceful Rest."

The deceased was the mother of nine children. Four children and her husband preceded her in death. Surviving are five children - George Schulz, Mrs. Minnie Theilig, Ernst W. Schulz, Mrs. Anna Smart, all of Colby, and Gottlieb Schulz of Spencer, also one sister, Mrs. Emma Radtke of Colby, Wisconsin. Also 25 grandchildren and 22 great grand-children.

Mrs. Schulz was born on April 28, 1860, at Cleveland, Manitowoc county. In 1876 she came with her parents to Colby and settled in Green Grove. Then this country was still a vast wilderness, with only a few settlers who had just moved in. She lived through the ox and jumper days which was the only way of transportation through the woods at that time and she never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneers.

On September 4, 1881, she was married to August Schulz and lived on the farm now owned by her son, Ernst. In 1921, they retired and moved to the city of Colby, Wisconsin. Last year in March she became ill and had to have an operation which was not too successful. She then lived with her son, Ernst, until last month when she returned to the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital and underwent another operation.

She was a member of the First Ev. and Reformed church, a good Christian, and a kind and loving mother.
