Schuh, Marie (Marriage - 26 May 1948)

Miss Marie Schuh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schuh of Colby, and Richard E. Nickolai, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nickolai of Stratford, exchanged marriage vows at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby Wednesday morning, May 26, at 9:00 o’clock, with Rev. N. B. Beschta officiating at the double ring ceremony and the nuptial high mass.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Reis, brother in law and sister of the bride, served as best man and matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Leanore Niklokai, sister of the groom. Miss Jean Elstrom, Miss Donna Van Dreel, Miss Marcia Schmidt and Mrs. Arthur Schuh, and the groom’s attendants included Robert Hepner, William Waldhart, Jr., Gilbert Lieck, Clarence Nikolai, brother of the groom, and Arthur Schuh, the bride’s cousin.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore an entrained gown of white satin fashioned with hoop skirt, long sleeves and a lace ruffle outlining the net yoke. Her long veil, which was edged with embroidered lace, was fastened to a pearlized tiara. She carried a bouquet of red and white roses, white carnations and lilies tied with satin ribbon. Her only jewelry was a rhinestone necklace, a gift from the groom.

The matron of honor wore a gown of white net over taffeta made with fitted bodice, full skirt and short puffed sleeves and carried a bouquet of white carnations. All five bridesmaids wore identically fashioned gowns of net over taffeta, Miss Nikolai in pale green, Miss Elstrom in pale blue, Miss Van Dreel in orchid, Miss Schmidt in yellow, and Mrs. Schuh in pale pink. All wore matching picture hats of net and carried bouquets of white or red carnations. Each wore a rhinestone necklace, gifts of the bride.

Breakfast was served the bridal party and dinner and supper to about 150 guests in St. Mary’s auditorium. In the evening, a dance was held at Walter’s pavilion.

Out of town guests present included Mrs. Roy Thompson of Minneapolis, Minn., Joseph Schuh of Shawano, Miss Lucille Nikolai of La Crosse, and Miss Leanore Nikolai and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nikolai of the town of McMillan.

Following a wedding trip to Dixon, Ill., and the state of Arizona, the couple will make their home with the bride’s parents. Mrs. Nikolai is a graduate of the Colby High School. Her husband was graduated from the Stratford High School and is engaged in cheesemaking.
