Mauritz, George (22 Mar. 1932 - 5 July 1952)

Funeral services for Cpl. George Mauritz, age 20, son of John Mauritz of Abbotsford, Wisconsin, who was killed instantly Saturday night, July 5, when the car he was driving turned over as he missed a hairpin curve on a mountainous road between Santa Ana and Silverado and Orange county, Calif., were held Monday morning at St. Anthony’s Catholic church in Athens, Rev. Norman W. Thomas officiating, and internment was made in Calvary Cemetery. He was born on March 22, 1932, in the town of Johnson and had worked on his father’s farm before he enlisted in August, 1948.

His mother preceded him in death. Surviving are his father; two brothers, Sgt. Lawrence Mauritz of Ft. Bliss, Tex., and John Mauritz, Jr., of Abbotsford; a sister, Mrs. Bernard Ellenbacker of Dorchester; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. August Neuenfeldt, Town Johnson.

(This additional note was provided by Doris Leister)

That should read Frances George Mauritz nickname Frankie. This is my Uncle. I never heard anyone call him by his middle name. Emma Mauritz Ellenbecker is spelled with an e not a. The grandmother is Mrs. Herman Neuenfeldt or Berta Augusta Ewan Neuenfeld not Mrs. August Neuenfeldt. Commonly called Gussie Just setting the record straight. Thanks for the detail of where the car accident was. Doris Ellenbecker Leister.
