Borck, Christina (7 APR 1859 - 25 AUG 1941)
Christina Oesau, daughter of Tyark and Margaret Oesau was born in New Holstein, Calumet Co., Wis., April 7th, 1859. There she spent her girlhood. In 1880 she was married to Fred Borck. They first made their home near Hayton, Calumet Co., where two children were born. In 1883 they came to Clark County and settled on a piece of land in the town of Worden, which was then all virgin forest, to face the hardships and privations of a pioneer life. Here, together with her faithful husband, they lived, and through hard work and perseverance made for themselves a beautiful farm and home and together with the other pioneers developed a prosperous community; were honored and respected by a circle of friends. Eight children were born to them, four sons and four daughters.
In 1919, they sold their farm and moved to Thorp, where she made her home until the past year. She had been spending part of her time with her children at their homes.
She was beloved by all who knew her. Through her amiable disposition, she acquired a host of friends. She was a sincere and devoted mother and a kind neighbor.
About three years ago she commence to all. Her children took care of her at her home for about a year and a half. When her condition got so she needed constant care, she was taken to her daughter Lily’ home at Gilman, Wis., where she passed away on Monday evening, August 25th at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 18 days. Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the Bogumill Funeral Home with Rev. Hotchkiss officiating. Now, after her many years with us, she is resting beside her husband, who preceded her in death on July 11, 1926, and two sons, Bertie and Herbert in the East Thorp Cemetery.
There are now left to mourn her death, two sons, Arthur and Edward of Thorp, four daughters, Ella (Mrs. Henry Coates), Alma (Mrs. Richard Coates) of Thorp, Lily (Mrs. George Yoder) of Gilman and Margie (Mrs. Kenneth Miller) of Seattle, Washington, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Laurent of Thorp, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
The pallbearers were her grandsons: Henry Jr., Merlin, Raymond and Glenn Coates, Walter Verkuilen and Delmar Smith.
