Colby, Wis. - Local News June 30, 1955

Mrs. Elroy Brehm underwent an operation at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital Wednesday morning.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. George Schneider at the Marshfield, Wis., hospital Thursday, June 23.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rannow at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital Friday, June 24.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Strathman at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital Saturday, June 25.

Mr. and Mrs. Axel Lidman and son, James, and Miss Malena Grambort of Chicago, Ill. are visiting in Colby, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Chester Gasho and family of Beach, N. Dak., visited last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Farning.

Mr. and Mrs. John Coates spent Sunday at Tomahawk where the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Coates, celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Orville (Billy) Davis and two children of Watervliet, Mich., visited several days at the home of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Davis.

Mr. and Mrs. Larry Koffarnus and children and Robert Ebert of Wausau spent the week-end with Mrs. Koffarnus and Robert’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Ebert.

Carl W. Diedrich, fireman apprentice, USN, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Fred G. Diedrich of Colby, is helping to prepare the escort aircraft carrier USS Rendova for retirement June 30, to the "Mothball Fleet." The Rendova, commissioned in October, 1945, played an active part in the Korean conflict and was one of the ships to take part in the Eniwetok A-Bomb tests. Under the Navy’s current drive to economize and maintain top battle readiness, she is being decommissioned.
