He was brought up in the schools of the community and helped in clearing of land and the development of the country. At one time he operated the Forest Queen Hotel in the village of Thorp.

On Jan. 21, 1888, he was united in marriage at Stanley to Addie Warner, who survives him. They had four children, all of whom are living; Leo J. Story of Gilman, Olive (Mrs. D.D. Chrismore) of Stanley, Gertrude (Mrs. Jas. Asplin) of Owen and Gladys (Mrs. Lester Baker) of Sharon, Wis. A brother, Frank Story, preceded him in death.

A short service was given at the home at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 27th and at two o’clock funeral services were conducted at the church at Jump River, Rev. Fischer of Hannibal officiating. Interment was made in the nearby cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Wolfe, Matt Welte, Roy Warner, Fritz Exstrom, Ralph Shilts and Henry Zack.
