Mordt, Edward (11 July 1860 - 26 Oct. 1931)
Edward Mordt, aged 71 years, a resident of St. Point the past seven years and formerly a resident of Abbotsford, Wisconsin, died at 8:30 o’clock Monday evening at his home. He had been an invalid for eight years altho he was confined in bed only the past week.
Mr. Mordt was born at Christiania, Norway, on July 11, 1860, and came to America at the age of 15. He located at Berlin, Wis., and then moved to Abbotsford, where at the age of 20 he engaged in the hotel business. He owned and conducted a hotel here, known as the Mordt House for 23 years. Seven years ago he and his family moved to St. Point.
The marriage of Mr. Mordt to Miss Caroline Young of Abbotsford took place at Medford on Feb. 8, 1891. Surviving besides his wife are one son, Oscar, at home, and five daughters, Callie and Edna at home, Mrs. W. T. Reading, Mrs. J. W. Taylor of St. Point, and Mrs. H. E. Second of Grand Forks, N. Dak. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. L. Van Hessen of Chicago, Miss Lizzie Mordt and Mrs. T. Keck of San Francisco.
Funeral services were held from the home at 2:00 o’clock Thursday afternoon and at 2:30 o’clock at the Peace Evangelical church, the Rev. Wm. Schwemmer officiating and interment was made in Forest cemetery.
