Kowieski, Mike J. #2 (11 NOV 1911 - 31 JAN 2008)
Mike J. Kowieski, 96, Auburndale, died on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at his home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, with a rosary recited by St. Mary’s Holy Name Society at 6:30 p.m., and on Thursday, Feb. 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Auburndale, from 9:30 a.m., until time of service at 10:30 a.m. The Rev Eric Linzmaier will officiate. Ahley Genett will be the organist for St’ Mary’s choir and congregational singing. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. His sons will serve as pallbearers.
Mike J. Kowieski was born on Nov. 11, 1911, in Thorp, to John A. and Julianna (nee Krynski) Kowieski. He was a graduate of Thorp High School. He married Marie A. Vandehey on Oct. 16, 1937, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Thorp. She died on July 17, 2000. They farmed in Thorp for three years then moved to Greenwood where they were in partnership in the grocery business for 16 years. In 1956, they moved to Auburndale and owned Mike’s Food Center for five years. For 30 years they operated a meat processing business out of their home, retiring in 1990. While in business, he also was employed at Weyerhaeuser Company, Marshfield, from 1956 until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, The Holy Name Society, and was actively involved with the St. Mary’s Friday fish fries. He enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead, as well as bowling, gardening and horseshoes.
Survivors include a daughter and six sons, Joan Johnson, Auburndale, Jerry (Edie) Kowieski, Dixon, Mo., Ronald (Jackie) Kowieski, Gurnee, Ill., Mike K, (Shirley) Kowieski, Wisconsin Rapids, Roger (Karen) Kowieski, Wisconsin Rapids, Thomas (Carol) Kowieski, Rudolph, and Richard (Karen) Kowieski, Stevens Point; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
