Martens, Janis (Marriage - 23 Dec. 1951)

Miss Janis Martens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sanders of Colby, and Keith Tischendorf, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Tischendorf of Dorchester were united in marriage at a candlelight service at Zion Lutheran church Sunday, December 23, at 6:30 P.M., Rev. O. Hoffmann reading the marriage ceremony. The bride was attended by her sisters, Rita Martens, as maid of honor and Donna Martens and Jo-Ann Martens as bridesmaids. The groom was attended by Everett Mossing as best man and Jack Havitz, the bride’s cousin, of Junction City and Jim Dehle, the groom’s cousin, of Dorchester as groomsman. Ed Havitz, the bride’s uncle, sang, "Oh Holy Night," "Because" and "The Lord’s Prayer," accompanied by Mr. Juneau of Abbotsford on the organ.

The bride was attired in a gown of lace over white slipper satin with scalloped lace trim. A lace bonnet held her finger-tip veil of illusion. Her bouquet consisted of two poinsettias on a white prayer book. Her attendants wore identical dresses of colonial styled sea green satin and their bouquets consisted of sea green satin muffs with yellow mums and wore matching bands of flowers in their hair.

A reception was held in the church parlors after which the couple left on a wedding trip to Lake Do-Bay.

The groom is in the army at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was formerly employed at the Laabs Cheese Factory at Milan. The bride is attending Central State College at Stevens Point, Wis.

Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Martin of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Radtke of Watertown, Mr. and Mrs. Al Hoover, Herman Martens and Mr. and Mrs. Lex Berhagen of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Martens of Unity, Mrs. Joe Marchel, Mrs. Louise Adrians and Gene Marchal of Dancy, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Havitz and family, Mrs. Martha Martin, Dr. G. W. Reis and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Berg of Junction City, Mrs. Mae Schmidt and Elaine of Stevens Point.
