Gould, Anna L. (4 AUG 1877 - 28 OCT 1943)
Anna Louise Buttke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Buttke, was born in Pommern, Germany, Aug. 4, 1877. The Buttke family came to the United States when Anna was about three years old, settling first near Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.). From there they moved to Neillsville, where she was confirmed in the German Lutheran faith and from there to Alma Center. She was united in marriage to John Frederick Gould of Merrillan on Feb. 5, 1895, who preceded her in death several years ago. To this union two children were born, Floyd of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Laura, Mrs. Robert O. Johnson of Owen (Clark Co.). Besides her two children she also leaves to mourn her death, four sisters, one brother, and two granddaughters: Mrs. Ed Iehl of Cadott; Mrs. Frank Clark of butte, Montana; Mrs. Ed Prindle and Mrs. Wm. Hayden, both of Alma Center; Paul Buttke of Milwaukee; and Esther and Verna Mae Gould of Harrisonville, Mo., besides a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In 1923 she moved with her son to a farm near Owen in the town of Longwood, where she resided until the past year, when she came to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Johnson.
She passed quietly away Thursday morning, Oct. 28, 1943, at the Sacred Heart Hospital of Eau Claire, at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 24 days, after suffering nearly three years of a lingering illness. She was a kind and loving mother and dearly beloved and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 1st, a short service being held at 10:30 at the Griebenow Funeral Home (Owen, Wisconsin), and in the afternoon at the Methodist Church at Alma Center at 2:30, the Rev. Matthews of Owen officiating. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, showing the love and esteem in which Mrs. Gould was held. Pallbearers were six of her nephews, Howard Prindle, Robert Haydon, August, Earnest, Harry and Edward Buttke. Flower girls were Mrs. Edwin Zimmerman, Miss Velma Haydon, Miss Ethel Buttke and Miss Crystal Hart. Music was furnished by the Marking sisters at Owen and by Mrs. Arthur Adams, Miss Coral Stranney and Mrs. Olive Blencoe at Alma Center.
Pallbearers at Owen were Calvin Franz, John Wendt, Jess Capes, Marinus Rasmussen, L.W. Bower and Andrew Smith.
Those from away who came to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gould and daughters, Esther and Verna Mae of Harrisonville, Mo., Paul Buttke and daughter, Ethel of Milwaukee, Mr. and mrs. Leslie Warner of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Iehl, Mrs. Ed Iehl, Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Buttke, Mrs. Lansing Wilcox and Harvey Buttke, all of Cadott, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Turnquist and daughter, Ruth, of Greenwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Getman of Black River Falls.
