Two men lost their lives when their cars crashed at a "blind" intersection in the town of Mayville, two miles north and two miles west of Abbotsford in Clark county, at 10 A.M. Friday. The dead are John Rose, age about 65, of Dorchester, Wisconsin, who suffered a severe frontal skull fracture and died at the scene of the crash, and Herbert Weideman, age 59, of the town of Mayville, who died in an ambulance while en route to the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital.

John Bergemann of Neillsville, Clark county coroner, said that Weideman had only a few minor scratches on his face and that an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death. No inquest will be held, he said.

At the time of the accident, Weideman, accompanied by his son, James, age 19, was driving his car west while the car in which Rose was a passenger was operated by Lester Staab of Dorchester and was proceeding north.

Staab said that he failed to see the other vehicle due to a clump of trees at the intersection which obscured the approach and James Weideman also said that he did not see the Staab auto.

Authorities said there were no skid marks leading to the point where the vehicles crashed in the center of the intersection, indicating that neither driver had an opportunity to apply the brakes. The collision hurled both cars into the ditch at the northwest corner of the intersection. Both cars were 1947 models but the Staab auto was the most severely damaged.

The Weidemans live a mile north of the scene of the crash.
