Struck by a Freight Train

Wm. Liepert resides in the town of Colby, Wisconsin; he is hauling logs to the mill of R. B. Salter & Co. On Monday he started for the mill with a large load and when he struck the crossing, just below the long bridge the load stuck fast on the track about half way across. A south bound freight was coming down the grade at a rapid rate, the team was unable to budge the load, so William unhitched his team and abandoned the load. The engineer of the train whistled for brakes then seeing that he could not stop, threw the throttle wide open. Result -- a load of logs scattered in every direction, a badly used up logging sled and an engine minus the pilot. It was a wonder the
