Hansen, James #2 (17 MAR 1864 - 03 DEC 1941)

Final rites were conducted from the Danish Lutheran church at Withee by Rev. J. L. J. Dixen, Wednesday, Dec. 10, for James Hansen who had passed away at a Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Mr. Hansen, a pioneer resident of the village of Withee and one of its best thought of and respected citizens, had been ill for some time. He was confined to his bed at the home of his son, Emil, for five days before being taken to the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital on Sunday, where he passed away two days later.

Interment was made in the Danish church cemetery. Pallbearers at the service were his six sons.

James Hansen was born in Langeland, Denmark, on March 17, 1864. He came to American in 1883 at the age of 19 years. He first went to Graling, Mich., where he worked in the logging camps for about 2-1/2 years, then went to Minnesota for a few years and later came to Stevens Point, where he went to work for the Wisconsin Central Railway company and later the Soo Line which was his work for 41 years as fireman.

It was there that he was united in marriage to Ane Nielsen in the year of 1887. To this union there were born eight children all but one of whom are living.

In the year 1903 he brought his family to Withee where they settled on their farm where he has resided until the time of his passing. His wife preceded him in death seven years ago.

He leaves to mourn his loss one daughter, Mrs. John L. (Tillie) Press of Gaston, Ore.; and six sons, Victor of Chicago, Hans, Walter, Alfred and Emil of Withee, and Raymond of Milwaukee; two brothers, Chris and Anton, of Montana; an aged stepmother, one sister, and one brother in Denmark; 14 grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Those from away that attended the services were Mrs. P. H. Denisen, Mrs. Will Emerson, George and Herman Denisen and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Denisen of Lyle, Minn.; Mrs. Charles O. Hansen and Anton Christensen of Boulder, Mont.; Victor Hansen and Mrs. L. Preston of Chicago; and Raymond Hansen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
