Brown, Mr./Mrs. George L. (Golden Anniv - 10 DEC 1941)

Mr. and Mrs. George L. Brown, who moved to Owen from Waterloo, Ia., 20 years ago and have since made their home in this city, yesterday, Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1941, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple were honored by a visit of friends and many relatives and grandchildren and children last Sunday at which time open house was held.

George L. Brown and Myra J. Thurston were united in marriage on December 10, 1891, at Waterloo, Ia., where they made their home for many years before coming to Owen. They are the parents of three children, Mrs. E. C. Wallace of Davenport, Ia.; Warren L. Brown of Gladstone, Mich.; and Earl of Nekoosa. They are the grandparents of 12 grandchildren.

At the open house Sunday the home was attractively decorated for the occasion in a color scheme of white and gold. The table was set with yellow tapers extending out to the places. In the center was a large two tier wedding cake and occasionally baskets of chrysanthemums were about. Mrs. E. C. Wallace poured and Mesdames. H. B. Mauel and R. C. Graham helped take care of the guests.

Among those that attended were their daughter, Mrs. E. C. Wallace of Davenport, Ia.; a grandson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Richard McCune of Westboro, Mass.; a grandson, Rolland McCune of Greenwood; a son in law, A. R. McCune of Peoria, Ill.; and many Owen friends.

Honored Again Wednesday

Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Brown were again surprised when on their golden wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rook of Friendship, who also were observing a wedding anniversary, their thirty-fifth, spent the day with them. They were accompanied to Owen by their daughters, Clara and Jean, and Earl Brown, Nekoosa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brown.
