Reese, Mary Ann (7 June 1856 - 14 Jan. 1944)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ann Reese, 87, who passed away January 14, were held Monday afternoon, January 17, at 1:30 o’clock at the Reese home and at 2 o’clock at the Grace Methodist Church. The Rev. Alex Abbott officiated. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Mary Ann Williams, daughter of John and Mary Williams, was born at Rosedale, Winnebago County, Wis., June 7, 1856, residing there until the family moved to Iowa County in 1865.

She united with the Baptist Church at an early age.

In 1879 she was united in marriage to Thomas Reese of Ridgeway, Wis. Her husband and her oldest daughter, Mrs. T. A. Mary Beckett preceded her in death.

She moved with her children to Greenwood in 1902, living here ever since, with the exception of ten years (1906-1916), which were spent at Dodgeville, Wis.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas of Hobart, Ind., and David of Greenwood; five daughters, Miss Anna Reese at home; Mrs. Charles (Sara) Specht and Miss Etta Reese at Madison; Mrs. Lucian (Emma) Butcher of Willard; and Miss Lula Reese of Eau Claire; also 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Edward Helmenstein of New Salem, N. D is the only survivor of her family.

Those who attended the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Butcher of Willard; Lulu M. Reese of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Specht, Etta Reese, Charlotte Specht, and Mr. and Mrs. William R. Specht of Madison, Wis.
