Helsten, Joan D. (11 Nov. 1933 - 21 Mar. 1956)

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity, for Miss Joan D. Helsten, 22, who died of a heart ailment at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where she had been a patient since Saturday, March 17. She had suffered from a heart ailment since childhood.

The body reposed at the Swarthout Funeral Home in Spencer until 12:30 Saturday when it was taken to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity, where Rev. Vander Stoep conducted final rites. Burial was made in the Swedish Lutheran cemetery.

During the services the church choir sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Face to Face" accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Henry Binning.

Pallbearers were Elroy Luepke, Arnold Bruesewitz, LaVern Weber, Walter Johnson, Norbert Griepentrog, and Walter Matter.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Huber, Alfred Oelrich, Emil Luepke, Loren Copet, Elmer Griepentrog, Fred Luepke, Wilbert Cohler, Arthur Phillips, Herbert Schwantes, Walter Luepke, Vilas Luepke and Walter Schauer.

In charge of the many beautiful floral offerings were Marlene Dallman, Iris Voelker, Sue Graves, Sandra Ellander, Mrs. Russ Nelson, Eileen Johnson, Maureen Boyle and Bonnie Koch.

Mrs. Helsten was born in Marshfield November 11, 1933. She graduated from the Spencer High School with the class of 1953 and has been employed by the Farmers Co-op Co. in Spencer. She was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity.

She is survived by her father, Elmer Helsten, route 1, Spencer, a sister, Jean, who is a student at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Marshfield, and two brothers, Lloyd and Robert at home. Her mother died March 17, 1954.

Out of town relatives here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Helsten, Mrs. Stanley Toff, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ellander and Sandra, Mr. and Mrs. George Nelson, Mrs. Clifford Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Helsten, Kenneth Helsten and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Helsten, all of Rockford, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson, George and James, Waupaca; Mrs. Bertha Koch, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klein, Crandon; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Koch and family, Westboro; Otto Kloehn, Mr. and Mrs. Reinhold Kloehn, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Kloehn, Mrs. Irene Steuber and Mr. and Mrs. Max Woodkey, Marshfield.
