Laursen, Mads (8 Dec. 1866 - 8 Aug. 1956)

Word was received Wednesday of the death of Mr. Mads Laursen, 89, who passed away at about 1:00 o’clock Wednesday morning at Athens, where he had been living with a daughter, Mrs. Henry Gruenwald.

Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time, however the body will repose at the Lulloff Funeral Home at Colby, Wis.

Funeral rites for Mads Laursen, who died August 8 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Henry (Laura) Gruenwald, at Athens, were conducted Saturday, August 11 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity. The Rev. Claude Vander Stoep officiated and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

The body reposed at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby until the time of services.

The church choir accompanied by Mrs. Henry Binning, sang "My Faith Looks Up" and "Nearer My God To Thee."

Pallbearers were George Miller, Herman Molle, Oscar Carlson, Ted Domer, Alfred Johnson and Nyole Creed.

Mr. Laursen, who was 89 years old, was employed for many years as janitor of Trinity Lutheran Church and also held various church offices. A longtime resident of Unity, he resided in the village after discontinuing farming near Romeo. For the past two years he has been making his home with his daughter in Athens.

A native of Denmark, where he was born December 8, 1866, Mr. Laursen married Ann Marie Rasmussen March 13, 1893, at Oshkosh. Both she and a daughter, Mrs. Minnie Parman, preceded him in death.

Besides his daughter in Athens, he leaves five other children, Fred, Marshfield; Ann of Milwaukee; Mrs. Mida Wieland, Yakima, Wash.; Alex of Tomahawk, and Reuben, New York City; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Out-of-town people who attended the funeral included Mrs. Holger Pederson, Mrs. Jens Rasmussen and Miss Marie Nielsen, Tampico, Ill.; Mrs. Frances Bruer, Hammond, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Jens Johnson, Big Rock, Ill.; William Rasmussen, Oshkosh; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rasmussen, Almond Kenneth Parman, Miss Ann Larson, and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Gruenwald, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Borg, Clintonville; and other relatives and friends from Spencer, Wausau and Marshfield.
