BRIDGE COLLAPSED

Accident Caused Death of Truck Driver as He Was Crossing Structure

John Verckuilum, son of John Vereckuilum of Thorp, chairman of the Clark county board of supervisors, met death Monday when an iron bridge across the Black river near Neilsville collapsed as he was crossing it with a truck.

On the bridge he met another truck and stopped to talk with its driver. When the other truck proceeded ahead, Mr. Verckuilum started to crank his engine. A few minutes later, just as the moving truck reached the end of the bridge, the structure went down. An iron truss struck Verckuilum and forced his body through the bridge floor.

The body of the unfortunate young man was taken through this city Tuesday for his home, accompanied by the father. The deceased was 119 years old.

Both trucks were loaded.
