Bamburak, Joseph W. (28 JUL 1914 - 30 OCT 1944)

A telegram was received here by Mrs. Kate Bamburak from the adjutant general informing her that her son, Pfc. Joseph W. Bamburak , who has been missing, is now reported killed in action in France on Oct. 30, 1944. His last letter home was written on Oct. 17.

Joseph W. Bamburak was born July 28, 1914 in East Chicago, Indiana. At an early age he moved with his parents, brother and sisters to Thorp, Clark Co., Wis. He attended the grade schools here and a few years ago left for Chicago where he was employed for Armour and Co. He was inducted into the army on July 14, 1941 at Ft. Sheridan, and later was sent to Camp Polk, Louisiana, where he received his basic training. From there he was transferred to a camp in Texas and went overseas in Feb. 1944, landing in Italy. Three months later he was sent to France with the Cannon Co. 7th Infantry.

He is sadly missed by his mother, Mrs. Kate Bamburak and one brother, John, of Thorp, and four sisters, Anne (Mrs. John Herbert), Helen (Mrs. John Waninski) and Julia of Chicago, and Mrs. Edward Janicki of Thorp. His father died Jan. 21, 1921.
