Austin, Betty Jane (Marriage - 9 July 1944)

Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Betty Jane Austin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Austin, Arlington, Va., and Pfc. Charles L. Kauffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray A. Kauffman, formerly of Neillsville, and now residing at Madison. The marriage took place on Sunday, July 9, at the Community Methodist Church in Arlington, with the Rev. Walter Lockett officiating.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a white organdy gown designed with a fitted bodice, bracelet length sleeves, and a billowing skirt which ended in a train. She wore a finger tip veil and carried a bouquet of gardenias and stephanotis. She wore a necklace fashioned from ear rings worn by her grandmother.

Miss Grace Kauffman, Washington, D. C., sister of the groom, was maid of honor, and Miss Betty Dolan, Arlington; was bridesmaid. Miss Kauffman was dressed in a powder blue frock and Miss Dolan wore pinks.

The groom’s attendants were Pfc. Warren Kuehling, Chambersburg, Pa., son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kuehling, Neillsville, and Pfc. Harold Arnold, Ft. Monmouth, N. J. Ushers were Pfc. Don Remmy and Pfc. William Austin, uncle of the bride, both stationed at Ft. Monmouth. A reception for 100 guests was held after the ceremony.

The bride, graduated of Martha Washington Seminary, Fredericksburg, Va., is employed by the U. S. Treasury department. Pfc. Kauffman was graduated from the Neillsville High School in 1940, and attended the Milwaukee school of Engineering, the Chicago Institute of Technology, and the University of Wisconsin. He was enrolled in the Virginia Military Institute as an ASTP student, and is now stationed with the signal corps at Ft. Monmouth.

Mrs. Ray A. Kauffman and son, Jerry, Madison, attended the wedding.
