Pond, Leonard J. "Lee" (24 Feb. 1968 - 6 April 2008)

Leonard J. 'Lee' Pond

Abbotsford, Wis. -- Leonard James "Lee" Pond, 40, of Abbotsford, was taken suddenly when his boat capsized in Mosinee on April 6, 2008, while fishing with friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Lee's life will held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, Wis.

Friends may call from noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Lee was born Feb. 24, 1968, in Rhinelander. He attended grade school in Rhinelander and later graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1986. He went on the college to obtain his BA degree in Morris, Minn. Later Lee moved to Abbotsford, where he made many friends and went into the HVAC field. Lee married Jolene Folkerts in 2004 and he became a dad. He loved his stepdaughter, Jamey, very much. Lee and Jolene were in the process of moving to Iowa when this tragedy occurred.

Leonard had many loves including his wife, his family, and fishing and hunting. He made every day an adventure. Lee enjoyed fishing, goose and duck hunting. He liked to help people out, and he was very intelligent. There was nothing Lee could not fix. Lee was sort of an inventor, always thinking about how to make something better. Lee had a passion for smoking any and all of the wild game he had caught or shot on his fishing and hunting trips.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Joleen of Britt, Iowa; his stepchildren, Jamey Moore of Indianola, Iowa, Jacey and Adam Benson of Cherokee, Iowa, Mitchell and Brooke Johnson of Garner, Iowa; and his granddaughter, Tori Johnson. Lee is further survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Geraldine Folkerts of Britt, Iowa; his father, Elmer Pond of Rhinelander; his brothers, Eugene Pond of Brandon, Fla., and James Pond of Rhinelander; and Jean Flor of Madison. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and relatives and many friends.

Lee will always be loved and missed but his memory will be with us always in our hearts and in all the memories of this extraordinary man.
