Montag, Elsie (8 June 1884 - Apr. 1945)

Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Montag, 60, were held Tuesday afternoon, April 17, at the Montag farm home, near Chili, and at the Chili Evangelical church, the Rev. S. A. Gutknecht officiating. Burial took place in the town of Fremont. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Jaster funeral home, Neillsville, where the body lay in state until Monday afternoon.

Elsie Brooks, daughter of Erwin and Minnie Zipfel Brooks, was born June 8, 1884, at her parents’ home in the town of Lynn. She received her education in the Lynn schools. In August 1907, she was married to Ernest Montag, who, with their two sons, survives. Since her marriage she has resided on a farm in the town of Fremont and for ten years in Chili. She was a member of the Evangelical church at Chili.

Her sons are Craig Montag, who lives on the home farm, and Clifford Montag of the U.S. marines, now in the south Pacific. Two children and her parents preceded her in death. Two brothers and a sister are living: Clark Brooks of the town of Lynn; Raymond Brooks of New Castle, Ind.; Mabel, Mrs. R. C. Norman, whose home is in Seattle, Wash. The deceased had one grandchild.
