Pilgrim, Alvin (14 Mar. 1919 - 14 May 2008)

Alvin R. Pilgrim, 89, Edgar, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at his home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

He was born March 14, 1919, in the town of Wein, son of the late Gustave and Mary (Flegel) Pilgrim. On June 3, 1944, he married Esther A. Draeger at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Edgar. She survives.

Alvin was a dairy farmer and had been employed at Marathon Electric prior to his retirement in 1982.

Among his favorite things to do were playing cards, woodworking, bird-watching and above all, driving his Cub Cadet tractor.

He was a past member of the Finance Committee and served as an usher at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau.

Special to Alvin was the time spent playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as visiting with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Esther A. (Draeger) Pilgrim, Edgar; three children, Carol Stevenson, Edgar, Marvin (Mary Jane) Pilgrim and Eugene (Janice) Pilgrim, all of Marathon; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Mike) Tylinski, Katrina (Dean) Thurs, Ryan (Melissa) Pilgrim, Carrie (Evan) Haehlke, Nicole (Jeffrey) Schneider; five great-grandchildren, Sofia Tylinski, Madisyn and Aliyah Pilgrim, Hunter and Alyvia Haehlke and three great-grandchildren soon to arrive; siblings, Mildred Knutson, Mabel Punke, Elroy (Elaine) Pilgrim, all of Edgar, Glenn (Louise) Pilgrim, Pillager, Minn., William (Adeline) Pilgrim, Edgar, a brother and sister-in-law, Wilmer (Mildred) Tuscher, Osocee, Fla.; other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Pilgrim; and three sisters, Selma Hamann, Viola Baumann and Elaine Beattie.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Gary Schultz presided. Burial was in the Edgar Cemetery. Friends called on Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson - Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar, and again on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Rengel and his staff for the wonderful care given to Alvin as well as the entire Comfort Care and Hospice Services team.
