Mary Celia Tomac was born on Aug. 16, 1913, in Beaumont, Texas, to Anton and Julia (nee Ozbolt) Tomac. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Greenwood and purchased a farm north of town. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Hemlock School and St. Mary’s Catholic School. As a young woman, she worked for families in the Greenwood area, doing domestic work, milking, baby-sitting, or whatever was needed. She married Edward Maass on April 13, 1937, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood. They managed a farm for George Speich Sr. before purchasing her family’s farm. They retired from the farm in 1971, and moved to Withee. She worked at the Havenette Nursing Home, Owen, and took night classes to become a certified nursing assistant. Her husband, Ed. died on Jan. 20, 1982. She continued to live in Withee until moving to the Black River View Apartments, Greenwood, in 1995. She resided in Greenwood until entering the Clark County Health Care Center in November 2005. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its St. Ann’s Society, and also volunteered at the Clark County Health Care Center. She had many interests, but especially enjoyed quilting, baking, gardening, sewing, canning, her chickens, and helping others.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Kathleen (Harmon) Lookhoff, Annandale, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Patrick (Amelia) Maass, Deanna (Miguel) Adriano, Suzanna (David) Lau, Melanie Lookhoff, James Lookhoff.Julie (Greg) Miller, Joe (Jessica Maass, and Nicole (Tom) Larson; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Victor (Virginia0 Perman, St. Paul, Minn.; two sisters, Kay (John D.)
