Lawrence Sevi Stowe S1-c was born Sept. 12, 1925, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Stowe in the Town of Beaver (Clark Co., Wis.), where he attended La Tart School. He then moved with his folks to Hemlock and attended the Hemlock, Longwood and Poppe Schools.

After graduation from the 8th grade at Poppe School he attended the Withee High School for three years. At the start of his fourth year he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted Sept. 10, 1943. He received his basic training at Farragut, Idaho. From there, Jan. 10 he was sent to the Aleutians, landing at Kodiak, from there he went to Dutch Harbor.

In August he came back to California and spent a few days with a friend. He was again sent back to the Southwest Pacific where he was in many places of battle.

On May 4, 1945, his ship was hit and sunk 30 miles west of Okinawa and where he met his death. At the time the ship sunk he was at magazine 1. Seaman 1-c Stowe was well liked by all who knew him.

He leaves to mourn his death, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Stowe of Greenwood; a brother, Pfc. Harold of Ashville, N.C., and Melvin of Bloomer, a sister, Mrs. Clara Stowe of Janesville; and other relatives, and a host of friends.
