Zugier, Frances "Fritzi" Caroline (2 April 1919 - 7 April 2008)

FRANCES "FRITZ" C ZUGIER

Frances "Fritz" C. Zugier, age 89, of Lublin, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Thorp Funeral Home Chapel. Fr. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in East Thorp Cemetery.

Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Friday, April 11, 2008 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary service.

Frances Caroline Makowski was born on April 2, 1919 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Mary (Sobolewski) Makowski. She was raised and received her education in the Lublin area. As a young woman, Fran moved to Chicago to work for her relatives at Real Packing Company and also worked at a bakery and did housekeeping. She later moved back to Lublin to help her mother run the family tavern. In the early 1960’s, Fran moved back to Chicago for a year to attend beauty school. She was united in marriage to Alfred Zugier, in Medford, on January 8, 1965. They took over the operation of her mother’s tavern, changed the name to Al & Fran’s Farmers Tavern, and ran the business until retiring in the late 1990’s. Her husband died on January 12, 2000. She continued to live in Lublin until the time of her death.

Fran had many interests, including spending time with family and friends, her pets—especially her cats Kenny & Cookie, eating out, needlepoint, sewing, knitting, gardening, watching TV, playing cards and cooking.

She is survived by six step-children: Connie (Clarence) Miller of Medford, Richard (Nonie) Zugier of Boyd, Linda Marchinek of Unity, Donna (Joe) Arvelo of Milwaukee, Peggy (Mike) Radakovich of Milwaukee, and Roger (Mary) Hinze of Eau Claire; 15 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; one cousin, Ted (Audrey) Makowski of Withee; four nephews: Chester (Carol) Bialik of Orange Park, FL, Dennis (Meryl Gale) Ciborowski of Morton Grove, IL, William Bereza, Jr. of Battle Creek, MI, and Pete Bereza of March AFB, CA; two nieces: Marcy (Frank) Czahor of Gilman, and Jane (Greg) Kline of Apple Valley, MN; five great nephews; two great nieces; several great-great nieces and nephews; and one brother-in-law, William Bereza, Sr. of Gilman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; her step-father, John Michalik; four sisters: Helen Makowski in infancy, Stella Ogurek, Sonia Ciborowski, and Mary Bereza; and one brother, Chester Makowski.
