Austin, Shirley Jean (Marriage - 10 Nov. 1944)

Miss Shirley Jean Austin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Austin, Merrillan, Wis., became the bride of Darwin B. Graves Sm 2/c, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Graves, Neillsville, in a candle light service, in the Methodist Church, Merrillan, on Friday, November 10. The Rev. Robert W. Sachtjen, pastor of the church, read the double ring service.

The bride wore a heather blue, wool dressmaker suit, and carried a bouquet of roses and sweet peas. Her maid of honor was Miss Dixie Graves, sister of the groom. Gavin Ray Upton, Black River Falls, nephew of the bride, attended the groom.

A reception was held at the City Hotel, Merrillan, for 17 guests. The young couple left for a wedding trip to Chicago, enroute to New York City, where Sm. Graves is stationed.

The bride is a graduate of the Merrillan High School, and the groom of the Neillsville High School. He has been in navy service since graduation.

Guests from away were: Mrs. Harry Engum and son, Dickie, Glenwood City; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Upton and son, Black River Falls; and Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Graves and daughter, Arla Mae, Neillsville.
