His wife was Mathilda born 9 Aug 1833 died 16 Mar 1908. Their daughter Mary born 15 Apl 1861 died 5 Oct 1939 married Louis Oldenburg in Marshfield, WI.

John and Mathilda Ley and their daughter Mary Ley Oldenburg are buried in the West Spencer Cemetery, Clark Co., WI No obits are currently available for this family on this site.

Some of the other Ley families of Clark Co do have obits that indicate the Ley family was from Germany. Since the area between France and Germany was often in dispute it is quite possible that Ley was French but the land where they lived was currently in the possession of the Germans. Most often people were asked where they were from, not what nationality they were.
