Chester W. Stephens, 96, Spencer, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, July 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer. The Rev. Robert Olson officiated. Burial was in West Spencer Cemetery. Grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.

Chester W. Stephens was born on June 15, 1912, in Dorchester, to William and Ida (nee Johnson) Stephens. He married Mildred I. Elstrom on April 17, 1935, in Owen. He had been a 50-year reunion construction worker and carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred, who resides at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen; three children, Robert (LaVonne) Stephens, Scottsburg, Ind., Sandra (Jerrold) Griepentrog, Spencer, and Darla (Kenneth) Strey, Spring Hill, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.

Memorials may be designated to Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer.
