Schwantes, Walter George (15 Aug. 1903 - 28 Jan. 1956)

Walter George Schwantes, town of Lynn cheesemaker and son of Mrs. William Schwantes of Colby, Wisconsin died Saturday night at the Madison General Hospital at Madison at the age of 52 years. He resided in Spencer the past two years. Funeral services were held at the Trinity Lutheran church at Spencer Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Randolph Mueller officiating, and internment was made in the West Spencer cemetery.

Mr. Schwantes was born in the town of Unity August 15, 1903, and was married to the former Ruth Buck June 3, 1928, at Edgar. He was a cheesemaker all his adult life and operated a cheese factory in the town of Lynn with his only son, William Schwantes. He was also active in school affairs and at one time served as school treasurer in the town of Holton. He was affiliated with the Spencer Lions Club, Lutheran church and the Central Wisconsin Cheesemaker’s Association.

Besides his wife and son, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. William Schwantes of Colby; two brothers, Maynard of Loyal and Donald of Neillsville; one sister, Mrs. Byron Neville of Milwaukee; two grand daughters. Two infant daughters preceded him in death.
