Happe, Lydia (25 MAY 1862 - 26 SEP 1947)

Funeral services for Mrs. W. R. Happe, 85, of Chili (Clark Co., Wis.), were held Monday afternoon at the Chili Evangelical United Brethren Church, following brief services at the home, where the body had lain in state since Sunday. The Rev. S. A. Gutknecht, pastor, officiated, and was assisted by the Rev. August Happe of Elroy, a nephew of Mrs. Happe. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Georgas Funeral Home of Neillsville. Mrs. Happe died Friday evening at her home, after a long illness.

Lydia Messner, daughter of John and Barbara Messner, was born May 25, 1862, in Lomira, Dodge County, Wis., where her early life was spent. She was married there on Nov. 16, 1887, to W. R. Happe, who preceded her in death in 1944. In 1900, they came to Clark County, settling on a farm near Chili where they lived until 1930, when they moved to the village of Chili. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and was a charter member of the Ladies’ Aid of the church.

Surviving are three daughters and one son: Miss Alma Happe, Rochelle, Ill.; Miss Elda Happe, Eau Claire; Irene, Mrs. Albert Lindow, and William, Chili. There are five grandchildren. Two sisters and four brothers are deceased.

Pallbearers were: Luther Lindow, Edward Ott, Adolph Foemmel, Ernest Lee, Ervin Haslow and Otto Rusch. A quartet consisting of Charles Lindow, Henry Nebel, Roy Jennings and Rev. Gutknecht sang, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Albert Grimm. Flower ladies were: Mrs. Gilbert Tanner, Mrs. Herbert Pusheck, Mrs. Leland Gerber, Miss Leah Ott, Miss Verna Happe and Miss Lorna Lindow.

Those from away who attended the services were: Miss Alma Happe, Rochelle, Ill.; Mis Elda Happe, Mrs. Effie Dole, Mrs. John Kohnke, Miss Eunice Ehrhardt and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kohlhepp, Eau Claire; Rev. and Mrs. A. E. Happe, Elroy; Mrs. Mary Bortle, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Happe and son, Arthur, Jr., Ripon; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Happe, Owen; Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Bandt, Marshfield; and Mrs. Gilbert Tanner, Madison.
