William C. Hessefort

William C. Hessefort, 58, of Marshfield, Wisconsin, died Monday evening, July 21, 2008, at Gold Horizons Assisted Living in Marshfield under the care of Ministry Home Care.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the Rembs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Visitations will be from 10 a.m. until time of the services Thursday at Rembs Funeral Home.

William was born March 6, 1950, in Kenosha to Charles and Gail (Lundskow) Hessefort. He attended elementary and high school in Kenosha, where he enjoyed successes in weight lifting, track and football. At Carthage College in Kenosha, Bill continued in football and track. He graduated with a degree in political science in 1972.

He was married to Janis M. Ekholm on Dec. 23, 1972, in Chicago. He and his wife, Jan, lived in the Chicago area for five years before relocating to Granton and then Marshfield.

Bill's employment began at the family service station in Kenosha. Then as an adult he worked as a bank auditor, mink farmer and factory worker. He graduated from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1994 with a teaching certificate in math, social studies and economics. Bill worked as a quiz writer for Renaissance Learning and as a substitute teacher where he enjoyed coaching track in addition to teaching. Bill has always had a love of reading, both fiction and non-fiction. He had always been physically active, enjoying a variety of sports including bicycling, cross country skiing, sailing, weight training, and in later years, motorcycling.

Bill had always been a loving and nurturing father and grandfather.

Bill is survived by his wife Janis; two children, Erik Hessefort of Crystal, Minn., and Katie Hessefort of Eau Claire; two grandchildren, Matthew and Nadia. He is further survived by his father, Charles Hessefort of Rice Lake; one brother, Rick (Myrna) Hessefort of Norfolk, Va.; and two sisters, Karen (Ralph) Garcia of Tempe, Ariz., and Sharon (Tom) Roberts of Rice Lake.

William was preceded in death by his mother.
