Ella N. Rose

Spencer, Wis. -- Ella N. Rose, our beloved mother and grandmother, 90, of Spencer, formerly of Rice Lake, went home to be with her Lord last Thursday, July 31, 2008, in the Palliative Care Unit at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. The Rev. Karl A. Rose, a son to Ella and the Rev. Robert Olson, will officiate. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Cedar Lake Cemetery in the town of Doyle in Barron County.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.

Ella was born April 4, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Richard and Wanda (Deckheiser) Nowjack. Ella's mother, Wanda, passed away when Ella was only 6 months old due to a flu epidemic at the time and Ella was raised by a stepmother, Elsie Wachter. In her early years, Ella was quite active in sports through the Lutheran Walther League. She met her future husband, the Rev. Martin Rose, while he was a vicar at the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Cleveland. The Rev. Martin and Ella were married July 4, 1943, in Cleveland. After their marriage, they moved to Wisconsin, residing in Muscoda, then Wautoma, then Rice Lake. After the death of her husband in May 2001, Ella moved to Spencer until she entered the Palliative Care Unit at Saint Joseph's Hospital. Ella lived a Christian life and her faith served as the cornerstone of her life.

Ella was a former member of both the First Lutheran Church in Rice Lake and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedar Lake and a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid, both in Spencer. Ella loved being outdoors and taking care of her gardens and plants. She enjoyed going for walks and traveling but her greatest love was spending time with her family.

Ella is lovingly survived by her children, Judith (special friend Tom Franz) Rose of Middleton, Susan Rose of St. Paul, Minn., Pastor Karl A. (Pamela) Rose of Spencer, Lois (Anand) Sharma of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; her grandchildren, Kathryn Hicks, Martin W. Rose, Gretchen Rose, Miranda Rose, Lorelei Sharma and Ravi Sharma and great-grandchildren, Emilie Hicks, Elliana Anderson, Levi Rose and Olivia Hicks. Ella is further survived by a brother, Alert Nowjack of Cadiz, Ohio. She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends. Ella will be deeply missed by her family and friends but we know she is resting in the arms of Jesus.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Spencer is assisting Ella's family with all arrangements.
