Baldwin, Otis (3 Oct 1828 – 16 Feb 1907)

Another Pioneer Passes Away

Otis Baldwin, a Resident of Fairchild Since 1879 Succumbs to Pneumonia After Brief Illness

Died, of pneumonia, after an illness of two weeks, on Saturday, Feb. 16th, at his home near this village, Mr. Otis Baldwin.

Mr. Baldwin was born in Vermont, October 3, 1828, and died at Fairchild, February 16, 1907. When Mr. Baldwin was six years of age he moved with his parents to Canistota, Oneida County, NY. He married his first wife in that place. She died in 1874

On December 24, 1876, Mr. Baldwin married Mrs. Ophelia Landon, of Chittenango, NY. They moved to this village in the spring of 1879, since which time they have resided here.

Mr. Baldwin was a respected citizen and had many friends, as was attested by the very large attendance at the funeral services, which were held at the family home on Tuesday afternoon. The service was conducted by Rev. Bryan, who took as the basis of his sermon Mark 13:33. The music was furnished by a ladies’ chorus, composed of Mesdames Frye, Waterpool and Livermore and the Misses Fallett and Hazelton.

He leaves a wife and step-son, F.M. Spencer, of Henderson, Minn., and several grandchildren, besides two sisters and two brothers to mourn his loss.

An unusually large number of friends followed the remains to the village cemetery where interment was made.
