Rueth, Selma E. (30 Nov. 1911 - Aug. 2008)

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal. The Rev. James Logan will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Selma Elizabeth Ploman was born Nov. 30, 1911, in Templeton, Iowa, to Edward and Elizabeth (Zaiger) Ploman. Her family moved to Wisconsin when Selma was a young child. She attended a small country school near Riplinger and later earned her GED in 1981. As a young woman, she worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Milbee and Dr. Potter of the Marshfield Clinic.

Selma was united in marriage to Peter Rueth on June 24, 1935, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield. They briefly farmed near Loyal before moving into the city of Loyal. She worked for the Loyal Canning Factory and at Roundy's while taking care of her husband for 22 years after he suffered a stroke in 1952. Her husband, Peter, died June 26, 1974. She continued to reside in Loyal until entering the Marshfield Care Center in the late 1990s.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and its PCCW, and was formerly active with the Loyal Senior Citizens.

Selma had many interests, but especially enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, reading and most of all spending time with her family.

She will be sadly missed by one daughter, Gertrude (Jerry) Kolb of Spencer; one brother, Walter Ploman of Granite Shoals, Texas; seven grandchildren, Pam Kolb of Madison, Paula Kolb (special friend Art Cordova) of Madison, Carol (Tony) Camin of Brooklyn, N.Y., Tim Kolb of Lowell, and Jon Peter Kelty, Julie Kelty and James Kelty, all of Loyal. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Selma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter; a daughter, Patricia Kelty on July 17, 2008; five sisters, Anna Schofield, Laura Tyrolt, Helena Ross, Rose Dietsche, Bertha Foster; and three brothers, Charlie, Edward and Fred Ploman.

Cuddie Funeral Home of Loyal is assisting the family with arrangements.
