NEILLSVILLE -- Walter Gerber, 72, of Humbird died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, in Osseo.

 

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.

 

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Walter was born March 6, 1936, in Granton, the son of Alfred and Aurelia (Elmhorst) Gerber. Walter worked for Nelson Muffler for a short time before moving to Rockford, Ill., where he worked from 1956 to 1971 for Sundstrand Corp. He was united in marriage Jan. 26, 1957, to Patricia Walker in Humbird. He worked for the Jackson County Iron Mine of Black River Falls from 1971 to 1983 and then worked a short time for Lynn Dairy. In 1984, he went to work for Gardner Trucking Inc. of Pittsville until his retirement in May 2007.

 

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Anne Gerber of Humbird; sons, Rickie Lee Gerber and Walter "Chip" Fredrick Gerber, both of Humbird, and Dean Wade (Linda) Gerber, Neillsville; daughter, Nickie Sue (Gwyn) Halverson, Humbird; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is further survived by three brothers, Harland "Hans" Gerber, Neillsville, Merlin (LaVonne) Gerber, Madison, and Lowell "PeeWee" (Arcy), Whitney, Texas.

 

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Brenda Gerber, and a brother, Alfred "Sonny" Gerber.

Walter Gerber, 72, of Humbird died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, in Osseo.

 

Walter Gerber was born March 6, 1936, in Granton, the son of Alfred and Aurelia (Elmhorst) Gerber. He attended the Zion Lutheran Church School in Granton, and after moving to Neillsville, he attended St. John’s Lutheran School and graduated from Neillsville High School. Walter worked for Nelson Muffler for a short time before moving to Rockford, IL, where he worked from 1956 to 1971 for Sundstrand Corporation. He was united in marriage Jan. 26, 1957, to Patricia Walker in Humbird. He worked for the Jackson County Iron Mine of Black River Falls from 1971 to 1983 and then worked a short time for Lynn Dairy. In 1984, he went to work for Gardner Trucking Inc, of Pittsville and worked for them until his retirement in May of 2007.

 

Walter was a long time member of the Black River Country Motorcycle Club, the Eagle’s Club of Rockford and the Men’s Bowling League in Rockford. Walter enjoyed riding his motorcycle, welding and fabricating and working on cars.

 

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Anne Gerber of Humbird; sons, Rickie Lee Gerber and Walter "Chip" Fredrick Gerber, both of Humbird, and Dean Wade (Linda) Gerber of Neillsville; a daughter, Nickie Sue (Gwyn) Halvorson of Humbird; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is further survived by three brothers, Harland "Hans" Gerber of Neillsville, Merlin (LaVonne) Gerber of Madison and Lowell "PeeWee" (Arcy) Gerber of Witney, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Brenda Gerber; and a brother, Alfred "Sonny" Gerber.

 

A Memorial Service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Duane Walker officiated.

Honorary Casketbearers were Wendell Ott, Cyril Palchik, Roger Grottke, Larry Arndt, Joe Schiller and Ben Cusick.

 

The Gesche Funeral Home of Neillsville assisted Walter’s family with arrangements.
