French, Robert B. (5 October 1869 - 18 January 1950)

Funeral services were conducted for Robert French, 80, at the Georgas Funeral Home last Saturday at 2 p.m. He died at his home, on West Fifth Street, Wednesday evening following an illness of two weeks. Interment was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery, with the Rev. Virgil Nulton officiating.

Mr. French was born to Robert D. and Ellen O’Brian French, in the Town of Dewhurst, on October 5, 1869. He received his education in the rural schools here. He was a pioneer in the lumber camps. He worked in sawmills and logging camps in early days.

On August 3, 1890, he was married to Maryette Rodman in Neillsville. The young couple moved onto his father’s farm, where they lived until 1948, when they moved to the Herbert Filitz home.

On July 9, 1949, they moved into a home they purchased on West Fifth Street. Mr. French had been in poor health for many years.

He is survived by his wife. A daughter, Gladys Beeckler, preceded him in death on June 12, 1947.

Pallbearers were: Herbert Filitz, Louis Lautenbach, Elmer Filitz, Arthur Opelt, William Gehrt and Carl Opelt.

Mrs. Carl Opelt, Mrs. Arthur Opelt and Mrs. Janie Paulus were in charge of the flowers. Mrs. Jo Ann Cummings sang two selections, accompanied by (Mrs.) A. C. Covell at the piano.

Those from out-of-town attending the service included: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Secord, Mrs. Nellie Secord and Mrs. Dennis Vadnes of Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Rodman, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Rodman of Waukegan, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fischer and daughter, Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Irving Fischer and Mrs. Jennie Fischer of Greenwood; Misses Daphne, Pearl and Bessie Beeckler, and Mrs. Clark Waterman of Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Clif Nelson, Black River Falls; Mrs. Emma Royce and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Reichenbach of Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Hallie Schultz of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Horace Rodman and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Beeckler
