Altenburg, John R. (27 November 1870 - 10 February 1950)

Funeral services were conducted on Monday at 2 o’clock at the Georgas Funeral Home for John R. Altenburg, 79. Mr. Altenburg died Friday, February 10, 1950, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Vandeberg of 109 Center Street, after an illness of several weeks. Burial was made in the Lynn Cemetery, the Rev. Virgil Nulton officiated.

Mr. Altenburg was born at Hazel Green, Wis., November 27, 1870, to John and Dorothea Werner Altenburg. In 1901 he came to Clark County with his parents and has resided here since. They located on the present farm east of Lynn, owned first by his father and later by Mr. Altenburg. He retired from farming in 1948. They came to Neillsville and made their home with their daughter and son-in-law, the Chris Vandebergs.

On November 28, 1902, he was married to Elizabeth Tremelling at Nasonville. Three children were born to this union. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Lucille) Dix of Wisconsin Rapids and Mrs. Chris (Florence) Vandeberg, Neillsville; one brother, Albert Altenburg of Hazel Green, two sisters, Miss Emma Altenburg, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs. James (Odelia) Tremelling of Marshfield; also ten grandchildren.

One son, one brother, and two sisters preceded him in death.
