Makovec, Molly (Marriage - 17 June 1950)

Molly Makovec became the bride of August Mertens last Saturday, June 17, 1950. The ceremony was performed at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church by Father Bornbach. The church was decorated with white snow balls and purple iris.

The bride, given by her father, wore white imported Swiss organdy with lace insets. Her flowers were white gladioli and yellow roses. The matron of honor was Mrs. Joe Makovec. Bridesmaids were Miss Bonnie Miller and Mrs. Eugene Mertens. Best man was Joe Makovec. Ushers were Loren Miller and Eugene Mertens. Music was furnished by the church choir.

A reception for 150 guests was given at the bride’s home. The decorations were of yellow, lavender, white and green crepe paper, pansies and iris.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Makovec of Owen. She is a graduate of Owen High, and has been employed at the First National Bank, Chicago.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Mertens of Withee. He is a graduate of Withee High and is in the trucking business.

After a wedding trip to the southern part of Wisconsin the young people will be at home in Owen.

In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Becker and family, sister and brother-in-law of the bride, Bemidji, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cole of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Botsch and family, sister and brother-in-law of the bride, Whiting, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mertens and family, brother and sister-in-law of the groom, Kaukauna; Mr. and Mrs. Anton Horvatin of Chicago.
