Schlinkert, Bernadine (Marriage - 24 June 1950)

In a double-ring ceremony performed at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Neillsville, with the Rev. Alfred Schewe officiating, Miss Bernadine Schlinkert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Schlinkert of Neillsville, became the bride of George L. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Johnson of Baraboo.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white brocaded marquisette over satin, with a sweetheart neckline and long pointed sleeves, fitted bodice and full skirt. She wore a floor length veil with a braided satin coronet, and carried a bouquet of peach colored gladioli. Her only jewelry was a double strand of pearls, a gift of the groom.

Miss Kathryn Zivney, Chicago, was her maid of honor; and Mrs. Herbert Schlinkert, sister-in-law, and Miss Virginia Zastrow, Washington, D.C., cousin of the groom, were bridesmaids. They wore identical gowns of white brocaded marquisette over pink, yellow and green taffeta with a coronet of white Star of Bethlehem and carried bouquets of pink carnations and white Star of Bethlehem.

The groom was attended by his brother, Robert, as best man, Herbert Schlinkert, Chicago Heights, Ill., brother of the bride, and Ronald Elmhurst, Neillsville, friend of the groom, were ushers.

Mothers of the bride and groom and the maternal grandmother wore summer prints with white accessories and corsages of pink carnations and yellow roses.

A reception was held at the Legion Memorial Hall at five o’clock. Places were laid for 100 relatives and friends.

Out-of-town guests at the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. Archie Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rischmueller, Mr. and Mrs. Rollo Wood, Mr. and Mrs. William Miller and daughter, Erma, Mr. and Mrs. Wettstein, Mrs. Stanton and daughter, Phyllis, Baraboo; Mr. and Mrs. William Zastrow of Merrimac; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Vogel, Reedsburg; Miss Shirley Zastrow, Mary Margaret Motelet, Miss Judy Hartman and Edward Schulze, Madison; Jake Vedvig, Seneca; Walter Wedin, Black River Falls; Russell Robinson, Mauston; William Rooney, Baraboo; Elmer Marth, West Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zivney, and Mrs. Wilburt Hansen of Owen.

The bride has been employed as a physical therapist at Hines, Ill. Mr. Johnson graduated from the University of Wisconsin on June 16. After a brief wedding trip the couple will reside at St. Croix Falls, where he has accepted a teaching position in the agricultural field.
