Laabs, Dorine #2 (25 SEP 1948)

Miss Dorine Laabs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Laabs, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), became the bride of Donald Poppe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Poppe, Withee, in a 2 p.m. ceremony Saturday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Colby, Wis. The Rev. M. C. Goetsch officiated.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a white satin gown, trimmed with lace and fashioned with net yoke, edged with satin and lace gathers. Her full peek-a-boo skirt was caught with tiny orange blossoms and extended into a long train. She carried a bouquet of fresh colored roses centered with tiny pink roses and white gladioli.

Mrs. Roland Knecht was her sister’s maid of honor in a fuchsia taffeta gown styled with a ruffled neckline and sleeves. The bouffant hoop peek-a-boo skirt was caught to points with tiny bows. She wore a matching headdress and carried a bouquet of fuchsia and white carnations.

Miss Opal Poppe, sister of the groom, and Mrs. Frederick Lulloff, cousin of the bride, were bridesmaids. Their gowns were similar to that of the maid of honor’s, but in aqua. They wore matching headdresses and carried bouquets of yellow and fuchsia carnations.

Junior bridesmaids were Karen Lea Laabs, sister of the bride, and Versla Poppe, sister of the groom. White satin frocks styled similar to those of the other attendant’s made up their attire. Matching headdresses were worn and they carried bouquets similar to that of the bride’s. Kenneth Lube, cousin of the bride, was ring bearer.

Attending the groom were Roland Knecht, Frank Klinke, and Frederick Lulloff, cousin of the bride.

Supper was served at the home of the bride’s parents and in the evening a dance was held at the Walters’ Pavilion, Colby, Wis.

The groom was graduated from Withee High School and the bride from Owen High School. Mr. Poppe served with the Navy in Japan and is now employed as a mechanic at a Withee garage. Mrs. Poppe is employed by the Hansen Office Supply Co., Withee. The young couple will make their home near Withee.
