His wife and an infant child preceded him in death. Surviving are three children, Edwin Schmidt and Mrs. Otis (Hildegard) Setser of Garden Prairie, Ill., and Arnold Schmidt of Milwaukee, and one brother, Gerhardt Schmidt of Colby, Wis.

As stated last week, Mr. Schmidt died as a result of injuries suffered in an auto accident. The accident happened when Schmidt veered into the left hand lane to avoid hitting a car driven by Gilbert Gulien, who had emerged from a farm driveway. He swung in front of the car being driven by Clarence Midkirk of Poplar Grove, age 51. His death was attributed to internal hemorrhage, shock and a ruptured lung.
Clarence Midkirk, his wife, Marjorie, and daughter, Patricia, age 17, of Poplar Grove and Edward W. Schmidt, age 59, of Garden Prairie were injured in the crash.
