Simboli, Mary S. (10 FEB 1940 - 21 NOV 2008)

Mary S. "Marie" Simboli, 68, Greenwood, died on Nov. 21, 2008, after a brief battle with cancer. She died peacefully at her home, with her family at her side. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 10 a.m., until time of services at 11 a.m., at the Grace United Methodist Church, Greenwood. The Rev. Dong Su Lee will officiate.

Mary June Hollman was born on Feb. 10, 1940, in Colby, to Verona (nee Bayuk) Hoffman. She was raised and received her education in Milwaukee, graduating from Nathan Hale High School, in 1958. She served in the U.S. Air Force from June 30, 1958, to July 31, 1959. She meet Walter Simboli while serving in the Air Force , and they were united in marriage on April 4, 1959, at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Ill. She raised her family and worked in child care while traveling across the country with her husband. Aftre their retirement from the Air Force in 1977, they moved to Greenwood so they could be closer to family. She then went back to school to be a nurse’s aide. She worked at the Neillsville Memorial Home for several years and at the Greenwood Bakery for many years. She served the community for many years in this capacity In 1984, they became foster parents for the first time. Over the years, they have fostered more than 100 children. They provided a safe haven and a loving atmosphere for many children to call home. Her 24 years of dedicated service, putting others above herself, have touched the hearts and lives of all who knew her. She had many interests, but especially loved taking care of kids and playing Lotto.

Survivors include her loving husband, Walter, Greenwood; one son, Tony (Sara) Simboli, Greenwood; two daughters, Angela (Theresa) Simboli, Greenwood, and Lisa (Kevin) Ritter, Whitehall; two adopted daughters, Shelly Simboli, Gilman, and Cynthia (Juan) Infante-Sandoval, Austin, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, Cassie (Ryan) Burcaw, Desiree, Mike, and Jerry Thomas, Rachel, Lindsay, and Taylor Simboli, Hannah, Andrew, Rebekah, and Benjamin Ritter, and Julio Sandoval. She had been a foster mom to many children, including Ann Saule, Carrie Wellman, and Lisa Cullen.

Preceding her in death were one daughter, Terri Thomas in 2003; her mother, and one brother, Eddie Hollman.
