Oryszczyn, Walter Swaitoslaw (7 February 1919 - 22 November 2008) With Flag
Walter S. Oryszczyn, age 89, of Withee, passed away at Oakbrook Health & Rehab on Saturday, November 22, 2008. A prayer service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, in Lublin, with Fr. Ted Wojcik officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
Walter Swaitoslaw Oryszczyn was born on February 7, 1919, in Minneapolis, MN to John and Tatiana "Jessie" (Figura) Oryszczyn. As a young child, his family moved to a farm northeast of Thorp, where he was raised and received his education. Walter served in the U. S. Army from August 29, 1942 until his honorable discharge on November 2, 1945. After his discharge from the Army, Walter did logging with Tony Sopetta and worked at Huberty’s Gas Station, in addition to farming his entire life. He was united in marriage on May 3, 1947, to Olga Leshuk at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in Lublin. She later passed away on June 29, 2003. Walter lived in Withee until entering Oakbrook Health & Rehab in September of 2008.
He was a member of Holy Assumption Orthodox Church and loved fishing, hunting, and playing the harmonica.
He will be sadly missed by one daughter, Carol (Charlie Hagedorn) Oryszczyn of Neillsville; one son, Bob (Margie) Oryszczyn of Thorp; two grandsons: James (Susan) Oryszczyn of Eagle, WI, and Steven (Amber) Oryszczyn of Switzerland; three great-grandchildren: Trina, Belle, and J.J. Oryszczyn; and one sister, Caroline Gwiazdon of Thorp.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Olga; and one brother, John Ory.
